so hard to find a good one...especially that is based on the drama, and not the manga.

(note: i think most nakatsu x mizuki fics, they write mizuki as "him" because it's from nakatsu's perspective. but that seems weird to me, so i'm just gonna use "her". because it's not really from his perspective, i guess it's mostly third-person narrative mode.)
"Mizuki...what happened today, anyway? You seem upset but you won't tell me anything. Does it have something to do with Sano?" Nakatsu quietly asked, as they walked past the fountain of their school. They don't have to worry about anyone else overhearing their conversation because no one else is here at night. It's late and they just came back from the okonomiyaki restaurant. Nakatsu leaned against the fountain casually as he waited for her to reply.
"I was just reminding him to be careful during training and to not come back too late," she quietly said as she sat down in one of the empty chairs at a table. "But I guess he was in a bad mood, because he said I nag him too much and it feels like i'm his mother. And then we both started yelling at each other, and he kept saying I'm too girly and i talk too much, and then I just shoved him and ran out of the room..." She pouted and stared down at her feet.
"That guy...why is he always so mean to you?!" Nakatsu yelled as he angrily kicked a chair. "I'm going to go talk to him and make him apologize to you!"
"No, don't!" Mizuki quickly grabbed his arm. "He's just been training all the time and it's making him tired and irritable. I know he's feeling a lot of pressure right now, and I don't want to cause more problems for him."
Nakatsu turned around and shook his head. "I know, but that doesn't mean we can let him get away with anything. When it comes to Sano, you're always taking his side, Mizuki. Even when he hurts you..." He frowned and gently rested his hand on her shoulder. "I really hate seeing you so sad because of him..."
She pursed her lips and nodded. "You're right... That's why I just decided I won't go back to my room tonight. Just to show him that I'm really mad." And she smiled in that cute, girly way that always made Nakatsu's heart beat faster.
He tried to keep calm even though he was thinking "kawaii~~!" in his head. "But where will you sleep? In the infirmary again?" Nakatsu wondered, scratching his head. And he thought he felt a few drops of rain, but he wasn't sure.
"No, I don't want sensei to catch me sleeping there again." Mizuki laughed. She bit her lip and looked down before she looked back at Nakatsu and clapped her hands together to ask for the favor. "Could I sleep in your room tonight?"
Suddenly, it was raining, but Nakatsu was frozen in place, his mouth hanging open. "Ehhhhh?? My...my room? to...tonight? Really?"
"Hurry, we have to get out of the rain!" Mizuki said, and started running.
Nakatsu still stood there, with a dorky smile on his face, as he was getting completely soaked. "Just me and Mizuki...my room...tonight..." There is a sudden flash of lighting and thunder rumbling, and that's when he realized it. "Ah, I forgot about Kayashima!" He stood there, pouting and wringing his tie, as Mizuki ran back to him.
"Nakatsu, come on! Let's go!" she said, gesturing to him to follow her.
"Oh...hai hai!" he replied and ran after her, back to Dorm 2.

Nakatsu opened the door and Mizuki followed him inside. Kayashima looked down at them from his bed upstairs and raised his hands, greeting them. "Okaeri. Oh...Mizuki. Welcome. I'm surprised to see you here this late at night. And you two are both so wet!"
"Tadaima." Nakatsu casually waved and smiled at his friend. "Yeah, we got caught in the rain."
"Sorry to bother you two, but I'm staying here tonight because...umm..." Mizuki hesitated, not wanting to explain that she had an argument with Sano again. She looked down and fidgeted with the buttons on her jacket.
Nakatsu quickly wrapped one arm around her shoulder and interrupted her. "Because I thought a sleepover would be fun and he's never been to our room. It's okay with you, right, Kayashima?"
"Souka." Kayashima smiled and nodded. "Of course it's fine. I'm sorry I can't join in the fun though. I am still looking for the ghost that possessed Nakatsu a few weeks ago, on the rooftop."
"Ah...gambatte ne!" Mizuki said and gave him a thumbs up as he walked down the stairs. "And be careful!" she added.
He nodded and smiled as he disappeared into the hallway. Nakatsu looked confused and excused himself for a moment to go ask Kayashima something.
He ran up to him and tapped him on the shoulder. "Oi, I thought you told me you already found the ghost and she already left? What's going on?"
"I just thought you would like to be alone with Mizuki. Am I wrong?" Kayashima asked.
"Uh...well...I....but where will you..." Nakatsu stuttered and scratched his head.
"If there's something you want to tell him, tonight would be a good time, i think. Don't worry about me. I'll go sleep in the infirmary." Kayashima smiled and patted Nakatsu gently on the arm.
Nakatsu smiled and gave him a big hug. "Kayashimaaa...you're the only one who truly understands me! And you always support me! Arigatou!"
Kayashima hugged him back and laughed. "You're getting me all wet!"
"Ah! Gomen, gomen!" he quickly let go of him and backed away.
"It's okay. now go hurry back before Mizuki changes his mind." Kayashima said.
Nakatsu nodded and got all excited, raising his fist in the air. "YEOSH! Mizuki, here i come!"
Kayashima smiled as he watched Nakatsu rush back inside. "Nakatsu, you have a very good aura right now." He nodded with approval and turned to continue down the hallway.

Nakatsu came back to find Mizuki looking around the room for something.
"what are you looking for, Mizuki?" he asked.
"ano...i was wondering if i could borrow some clothes, since mine is all wet." she explained.
"of course! we should both get out of these wet clothes before we catch a cold." Nakatsu opened his locker/closet and grabbed a loose t-shirt and a pair of jean shorts and handed it to mizuki.
"arigatou." mizuki said, but she looked a little worried. She looked up towards Kayashima's bed. "I forgot to ask Kayashima if I can sleep in his bed, but he probably won't be gone all night. hmm..."
"actually, he said he will be back in a few hours. so, you better sleep down here...with me." Nakatsu tried to say it casually, but his heart was beating so fast, he wasn't sure how it came out.
"oh, i can sleep on the floor," Mizuki immediately said, but when she turned around, she realized he had already started undressing and he was shirtless now. She tried to pretend everything was okay and quickly looked away.
"eh? sleep on the floor?" he walked closer to her and she still tried to avoid looking at him. "I can't let you sleep on the floor. if you don't want to sleep with me on the bed, then i'll sleep on the floor and you can have my bed."
"no, i can't let you do that, this is your room" she said, looking at the empty space on top of his head, trying to avoid seeing him half-naked.
"what's the matter with you? where are you looking? and you should change your clothes already, mizuki. here, let me help you take off your jacket." he barely touched her shoulders, when mizuki squirmed away quickly and nervously said "no, it's okay, i'm not used to changing in front of others!" she rushed inside the shower and slammed the door shut. he heard her lock it too. it even seemed like Mizuki was blushing a little?
Nakatsu pouted and crossed his arms. He leaned his head to one side and wondered what was wrong. He had never seen Mizuki shirtless. He always bathed alone and didn't even take off his shirt at the beach. "Ahh, he is probably embarrassed because he is not as muscular as I am!" he nodded and smiled as he looked at himself in the mirror by the sink. he seemed a little disappointed. "is sano in better shape than me? i haven't noticed. maybe i should work out more..." he pouted and pulled on a t-shirt.
a few minutes later, mizuki came out to see that nakatsu had laid out a blanket and a pillow on the floor. he was waiting just outside, holding his wet uniform and some hangers.
"oh, you're done. eh...my clothes look good on you too, ne! give that to me, i'll go hang up our wet clothes in the shower."
"ah, thank you" mizuki said and smiled.
nakatsu nodded and smiled back at her and went in the shower. when he came out, he saw mizuki sitting on the blanket on the floor.
"ehhh. i already told you i'd sleep on the floor, baka." he hit her on the head playfully before sitting down next to her.
"you don't have to do that for me. i'm totally fine with sleeping on the floor." mizuki insisted.
"fine, how about if we sleep on the floor together?" he cheerfully asked, grabbing her and pulling her close to him.
"nakatsu..." she pulled away from him. "i'm used to sleeping alone, so...ok. i'll sleep on your bed tonight. thank you."
"ah, i knew that would get you to sleep on the bed!" he laughed. "but you have no problem sleeping with sano..." he said under his breath and frowned.
"eh? what did you say just now?" she asked.
he shook his head and tried to forget what he saw that night. "nothing. nevermind..." he smiled and looked at her thoughtfully. "i'm just glad we could be together tonight. just the two of us...finally."
"oh..." mizuki smiled and nodded as she pulled the blanket over her legs.
the room was silent for a moment, except for the sound of the rain falling outside, and it made nakatsu nervous. he looked at his watch. it was already 10:30 pm. he stared blankly at the things hanging on his wall for a moment. he wasn't sure what he wanted to say to mizuki. even though he knew he loved him. but mizuki definitely cared a lot about sano and was probably in love with him. sano seems to care about him too, but nakatsu can't tell if he really loves him since he seems indifferent towards Mizuki most of the time. but as long as they're not a couple yet, he still has a chance, right? he can't just give up.
actually, namba did teach him something that might be useful right now. He said if you want to confess to a girl, but you're too nervous, then ask her to help you practice confessing to the "girl" you like and see how she'll react. You might be able to tell if she likes you back or not.
"ne, Mizuki...could you help me with something?" he quietly asked.
she was hugging her knees, staring off into space too, but she turned around and looked at him curiously and replied, "of course, what do you need help with?"
"ano...i actually like someone right now and i don't know how to tell him...i mean her! it's a girl! a girl!"
"of course." Mizuki laughed.
"umm...i was wondering if you could let me practice with you? i mean...you be her and i can practice confessing to her, with you? ...ii no ka?" he nervously looked at her, wondering how she would react.
"ahhh. souka. it's ok, i don't mind. i'll do it. is she the reason why you broke up with komari?"
"uhh.... hai..." he scratched his head nervously.
she got down from the bed to sit next to nakatsu. "it's ok, you don't have to feel guilty...i think komari understands. she wants you to be happy, and if this person makes you happy..."
"this person makes me very happy! i've never been so happy than when i'm with her..." he said, looking intently at Mizuki.
"ii neee!" Mizuki smiled and crossed her arms. "i'm glad Nakatsu has someone he likes so much."
"hai...so i'll just go ahead now..." he nervously said, as Mizuki nodded.
Nakatsu took a deep breath. he looked straight into her eyes and Mizuki smiled encouragingly. "I know that you only see me as a friend, but I have actually liked you for a long time now. Your kindness and determination made me fall for you, and now I don't know what to do. I can't imagine anyone else I would rather be with right now. But I'm not sure how you feel about me. Could you give me a chance to be your boyfriend?"
Mizuki seemed very touched by what he said, which gave him the courage to move closer and hold her hand as he softly said "I love you." he wanted to kiss her so much, but he remembered this is just pretend and quickly let go of her hand.
"ah, gomen! i didn't mean to hold your hand..." he apologized.
"daijoubu! it's not a big deal..." she replied, though she seemed a little embarrassed too.
"so...what do you think, Mizuki?" he asked while trying to smile to hide his anxiety. "how was my confession?"
"it was amazing!!" Mizuki grabbed his shoulders and smiled. "i...i don't have much experience with confessing to girls, actually. but i thought this was a very sweet confession! you spoke in such a gentle voice and you had such a sincere expression on your face. but you also looked so cool and handsome! it felt so real, like you were confessing to me. my face even got hot and my heart was beating faster!"
"souka? hounto ni? i'm really glad you think so! arigatou, ne!" he was so happy his confession could affect Mizuki that much, even if he didn't know it was really meant for him.
"i'm happy i could help. Nakatsu has helped me out so many times. that's what friends are for, right?" Mizuki cheerfully replied.
Nakatsu smiled and nodded as he noticed how her face was still slightly red. "Why does he have to be so pretty and so nice? Why can't you be a girl?....I really want to kiss you." he thought.
"well...i guess we should go to sleep now, ne?" Mizuki said as she yawned and stretched her arms.
"wait. there's just one more thing i want to do..." Nakatsu suddenly leaned in close to Mizuki's face, startling her and she fell down on the blanket.
"Nakatsu? what are you doing?" she nervously asked, as he continued to move closer, with a certain intensity in his eyes that she had never seen before.
He stared at her for a moment longer before his face returned to normal and he puckered his lips up and joked "Could you help me practice kissing, too?"
"baka!" Mizuki pushed him away and they both started laughing.
"gomen, gomen!" he continued saying, as she got back on his bed.
"that's ok, that's enough." she laughed. "ja...oyasumi."
"oyasumi, mizuki." Nakatsu said. they smiled at each other before he turned off the light.
Nakatsu laid down on the blanket but he wasn't sleepy. all he could think about was how happy he was that he got to confess to Mizuki, even though she didn't know it. and it's hard for him to calm down with her being so close to him. he probably won't be able to sleep all night. He glanced up at mizuki. it was dark, but he could see her face clearly because the rain had stopped and there was moonlight. she fell asleep so fast. he had hoped that maybe they could talk some more. but he did like watching her sleep and hearing her soft breathing.

Nakatsu yawned and looked at his watch. It was 3:15 AM and he still couldn't sleep. He stared at Mizuki again. He couldn't hold back any longer. "Maybe I could just kiss him on the cheek. That would be ok, wouldn't it?" he thought to himself as he quietly moved closer to her. Nakatsu brushed aside her hair and gently kissed her on the cheek. She stirred a little, but continued sleeping.
Nakatsu was so happy, he quietly did a little victory dance and then laid back down on the blanket, his heart still beating fast. He was touching his lips and smiling to himself when suddenly Mizuki woke up and screamed.
"I didn't do anything!!" he quickly yelled.
Mizuki jumped down beside him, not noticing what he said. She tugged at his shirt as she breathlessly told him what happened in her dream. "The ghost, the ghost!! Nakatsu, i had a nightmare...the ghost possessed me and was trying to hurt others....it was horrible!"
"ehhhh..." he replied, relieved that she didn't know about the kiss. "calm down, Mizuki. it's just a dream. i'm sure the ghost isn't here." he patted her back reassuringly.
"it was so scary, Nakatsu. it felt so real!" Mizuki said, curling up by his side.
"Mizuki....are you really scared of ghosts?" Nakatsu asked.
She nodded. "Ever since i was a kid..."
Nakatsu pursed his lips and hugged her tightly. "Don't be afraid. I'm here. The ghost already possessed me once, so i don't think she'll try it again. She won't come here."
"I guess you're right..." Mizuki replied uncertainly.
She was hugging him back, and it made him so happy to hold her in his arms. "even if she does come, i'll protect you." he pulled away to look at her. "i won't let anyone hurt you, Mizuki. Because....because you're my friend."
she nodded and smiled. "Thank you, Nakatsu. i feel much better now." she got up to get back into bed, but nakatsu grabbed her hand and pulled her back towards him.
"why don't we sleep together? just for tonight... we should stick together just in case something happens, right?" he hesitantly asked.
"umm.....i guess you're right. i'll feel safer with Nakatsu right next to me." she smiled.
"souka?" he nervously said as she got the pillow from the bed and laid down next to him. "i also feel much better with Mizuki beside me." he softly said.
She smiled at him before closing her eyes and curling up a little.
"don't worry, i'll wait until you fall asleep, and then i'll sleep." he quietly said. She nodded and mumbled "thank you..."
Around half an hour later, she was in a deep sleep. Nakatsu loved being so close to her. Here they were, just the two of them, lying next to each other. But it wasn't enough. He wanted more. He wanted to cuddle with her, pretend they were a real couple, if only for tonight. He slowly moved closer to her.
"If only it could always be like this..." he softly said as he caressed her cheek. "if you choose me, i would make you happy. I would always take care of you. Mizuki...I love you." he whispered. His fingers brushed over her soft lips before he leaned in and kissed her gently.
He pulled away quickly, half expecting her to wake up, but she didn't. He breathed a sigh of relief and moved even closer and wrapped one arm around her waist, drawing her close to his body.
"At least for tonight, I can pretend that you're all mine. I really don't want to let you go, Mizuki..." Nakatsu whispered this before he closed his eyes.
He lovingly stroked her back a few times before resting his arm around her waist once more. "He has such a small waist. he's really like a girl... but it doesn't matter to me if you're a guy or a girl, i will still love you..." Nakatsu thought to himself.
he gently stroked her hair a few times as he slowly drifted off to sleep. they slept peacefully in the moonlight with Nakatsu holding her close to him. they didn't even wake up when Kayashima came back around dawn because he forgot his phone. he was surprised to see Nakatsu and Mizuki cuddling, but he was really happy for his friend. he took a picture of them before he quietly closed the door behind him.
as he walked through the hallway, he sent the picture to Nakatsu and put his phone back in his pocket. "Now you have something to help you remember this special night." he thought and smiled. "No matter what happens with you and Mizuki from now on...at least you did have this one unforgettable night together, just the two of you."

i always thought it was unfair that nakatsu never got to kiss mizuki. so in this fic he got to kiss her twice, and sleep with her too!! yey!!! xD for some reason i just can't imagine nakatsu and mizuki going any further than this, though. and the few fics i've seen, where they consummate their relationship, those freaked me out a little!! hahaha...
